Abstract
With input from the Land Transport Route Test Centre of the Munich Institute of Technology, work has been carried out on the subway, tram, commuter and mainline railways constructed in Germany over the last three decades to protect buildings against vibration and secondary airborne noise. The involved laying over 100 km of under-ballast matting, as well as configuring the permanent way as a mass suspension system on especially critical sections.
