Abstract
The friction mechanics of the very highly loaded sliding area between piston and cylinder of tilted plate axial piston machines used in hydrostatics have been explored. This required at first the development of a new test stand for the direct measurement of the friction forces. The experimental results confirmed with the theoretical expectations. The friction losses follow the laws of the Stribeck curve.
