Investigation on parallel-plate mode suppression by high-impedance surfaces for feeding networks of integrated planar antennas

Abstract

This contribution deals with the suppression of parallel plate modes in stripline environments by replacing one of the stripline's ground planes by a high-impedance surface. The effects on a slot antenna fed by such a modified stripline are investigated. Addressed topics are high-impedance surface design and bandgap width, reduction of total substrate thickness, losses, and manufacturability.
