Abstract
Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is a rarely diagnosed disease in patients with cystic fibrosis. However, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is an often observed phenomenon. We present the case of an 8 year old girl suffering from both cystic fibrosis and invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, to demonstrate the diagnostic problems in infections with aspergillus namely reduced effectiveness of serodiagnosis and x-ray examination as a consequence of cystic fibrosis, the basic disease. Either diagnosis, though, influences the therapeutic consequences. Different possibilities of treatment have to be considered such as application of corticosteroids, increased dosage of antibiotics or start of antimycotic therapy. Regular mycological screenings are important, because invasive pulmonary infections are obviously more frequent than clinically estimated as demonstrated by autopsy.
