Abstract

The High Line Park, which opened in 2009, has already become an icon of contemporary landscape architecture and a popular landmark in New York City. The 2.5-kilometer-long facility was built at a height of nine meters on a former elevated railway line, begins in the Meatpacking District on the West Side of Manhattan and ends in Hell's Kitchen. James Corner is neither the discoverer of the High Line nor the inventor of parks on disused railway lines, but with his excellent design skills he ensured that the High Line is now one of the ten most popular tourist attractions in New York and one of the most famous projects of contemporary landscape architecture worldwide.
