Abstract
Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL) are promising single-mode light sources for numerous applications covering particularly optical communications, gas sensing and environmental monitoring. The progress on high-performance InP-based long-wavelength VCSELs that provide submilliamp continuous wave lasing at room temperature is presented. The lasing operation at single mode with high quantum efficiency is also described.
