Abstract
Numerical simulation has become essential to the key industries of the international economy. Supercomputer-based calculation of complex models does not replace physical or technical experiment completely, but it has to be seen as an indispensable aid in modern research, development and production areas. Today, numerical simulation is one of the most promising answers to rising costs and development times. The authors describe the development and growing meaningfulness of numerical simulation with particular emphasis on its current and future significance in microelectronics.
