Abstract

Routine diagnostic tests (history, skin test and determination of specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) to insect venom extracts) in hymenoptera venom allergy can result in inconsistent findings. Extended diagnostic tests such as determination of sIgE to allergen components and carbohydrate determinants, performance of inhibition tests and cellular tests can increase the diagnostic accuracy in such cases.
