N2 - A novel quantity called IQ-factor is proposed that facilitates the analysis of soft-decision decoding. The IQ-factor is based on mutual information and naturally relates to the Q-factor. We use IQ to define decoding thresholds. Simulations show that IQ is an accurate estimate of the system performance.
