Abstract

Nuclear periphery was studied using antiprotons. Two experimental methods were applied: analysis of the antiproton annihilation residues one mass unit lighter than the target mass by nuclear spectroscopy and the measurement of strong interaction effects on antiprotonic X-rays. Isotopes from a wide range of mass number (40 < A < 238) were investigated. Assuming densities in the form of two-parameter Fermi distributions neutron densities and differences of root mean square radii of neutron and proton distributions were determined for 26 isotopes.
