N2 - The energy transformation requires massive investments in renewable energies and a complete transformation of most of the final energy sector. The coupling of the power, heating and traffic sector is very promising. Most of the new renewables produce electricity. This makes electricity the new “primary energy” and most important final energy for all sectors. Second heating and traffic sector offer unique flexibility options, which can balance the intermittent nature of the renewable supply. Still millions of houses need to be refurbished and millions of cars need to be replaced. This transformation process would at best be market-driven to apply cost-optimal solutions and to avoid long-term planning errors. Still, markets lack mainly information on all levels: on the customer side, the supplier side, the regulator side and on the side of official authorities. The creation of a new information platform, which combines various levels of complexity and scales, can overcome this lack of information. Unleashing new market forces promises the advent of a new wave of system transformation.
