Abstract
Test specimens from concrete of the KP, KR and KF consistency were produced with a dewatering formwork course, Zemdrain, and imbibing formwork inserts made of cardboard and blotting paper. These were then tested after 2 1/2 years of exposure to air. With the formwork course, smooth, nearly honeycomb-free concrete surfaces were produced. The carbonation depth after 30 months amounted to only about 0.5 mm, and the gas permeability and water uptake were reduced. The resistance of the boundary zone against frost and de-icing salt attack continued to be present even after weathering in the open air. Concretes produced with imbibing formwork inserts were also less permeable to water and gas than concretes formed without inserts. Carbonation depth was around 1 mm after 30 months.
