Abstract
The efforts taken for developing a nuclear fuel for the FRM-II research reactor to provide high performance are discussed. An international working group, established by Technische Universität München (TUM) in the year 2001 is working on a new fuel with desirable densities and reduced enrichment. The alternative monolithic UMo fuel is presently under study at the RERTR program. Efforts are taken by various agencies to develop a high performance fuel element for the research reactor by the year 2010.
