Abstract
Data regarding specific IgE-antibodies against a fixed spectrum of allergens was examined in circa 30,000 patients. Sensitization to food allergens was found in 30% of the patients; sensitization to vegetable food allergens markedly exceeded sensitization to animal food allergens. Coincidence of specific IgE-antibodies against pollen and against foodstuffs in the same patients was seldom found for animal products and chicken eggs. Food allergens like hazelnuts or peanuts, among others, showed high coincidence and could mean a high degree of relatedness between the two kinds of allergens. However, contamination with mold material cannot be ruled out, because only foodstuffs often contaminated in natura showed this high rate of coincidence.
