Abstract
Experience with the Munich heavy ion postaccelerator after six years of operation and improvement of the performance of the postaccelerator are described. The improvement has been performed by using a new type of drift tube with considerably reduced contribution to the resonator capacitance, by mounting more drift tubes and by installing a drift tube configuration with constant gap voltage distribution along the resonator axis. Various techniques of bunching or pulsing the beam have been developed and used.
