Abstract

The antibodies occurring in atopic diseases belong to the immunoglobulin class E, discovered only a few years ago. The serum IgE concentration can be determined quantitatively by the radioimmunosorbent assay. In 68.4% of 130 patients with neurodermatitis it was possible to demonstrate with this test elevated IgE serum levels of more than 1000 U/ml. The average value of the IgE concentration was 4559.4 U/ml in the neurodermatitis group. Compared with this, the IgE average values were within normal range with 346.5 U/ml for psoriasis vulgaris patients, 215.8 U/ml for urticaria patients and 223 U/ml for patients with contact eczema.
