Abstract
Monometallic acetonitrile complexes [M(MeCN)4][BF 4]2 (M = MnII, FeII, Co II, NiII, CrII and ZnII) have been immobilized onto the surface of purely siliceous MCM-41 and tested for their activity as initiators for cyclopentadiene polymerization. The integrity of the MCM-41 hexagonal mesoporous structure in the modified materials was verified by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and N2-adsorption measurements. FTIR spectroscopy suggests that the acetonitrile complexes do not undergo significant changes during the fixation process. The heterogenized M2+ complexes catalyze the polymerization of cyclopentadiene but their activity is lower than that of the complexes in the homogeneous phase.
