Abstract

HDS and HDN of fossil and regenerable hydrocarbon feedstocks are key reactions to utilize feedstock in a clean environmentally compatible fashion. A discussion covers the hydrogenation reactions and hydrodefunctionalization of aromatic molecules using Pt and Pd-Pd, as well as Mo and Mo-Ni catalysts by combining the characterization of the active sites and detailed kinetic measurements; and the specific role of the metals involved and the potential and limitations of the catalysts involved. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 20th Annual Saudi-Japan Symposium on Catalysts in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals (Dharan, Saudi Arabia 12/5-6/2010).
