Abstract
Investigation work described revealed that a cement-bound base course can relieve the bending stress of the topping surface course considerably, depending on its flexural stiffnes. For assessment of bearing performance and deflection of such a multi-course system, the cracks in the cement-bound base course have to be determined. Reduction of the flexural stiffness calls for an adequate correction of the Young's modulus. Approximative figures for design work are given.
