Abstract

Applying a new model for the heterogeneous phase transition we show that the addition of foreign particles, i.e. the appearance of heterogeneous condensation, is able to prevent shocks and to suppress unsteadiness caused by the sudden heat addition of purely homogeneously condensing transonic flows. Furthermore we show that the heterogeneous condensation is able to decrease the high nonequilibrium loss which is connected to the homogeneous condensation, making it to a potential candidate to increase the efficiency of steam turbines.
