Abstract

Methyltrioxorhenium(VII)‐catalyzed oxidation of 2‐methylnaphthalene (1) with hydrogen peroxide leads to vitamin K3 (2) in good yield and high regioselectivity. The currently employed industrial synthesis of 2 with chromic acid produces 18 kg of chromium‐containing waste per kg of product. (Figure Presented.)
