Abstract

The dismantling experiments performed on a model shield structure have shown blasting techniques to be able to dismantle thick-walled, highly reinforced concrete structures. The blast impact can be indicated in qualitative terms. The separating effect (first setup) and the side effects acting on the shortrange environment, the whole structure, and neighboring facilities can be calculated. Containment accelerations were reflected very well by the calculations. The stability of safety related reactor components is not endangered by the high-frequency excitation created by blasting. Considerable expense was involved in retaining the dust immediately after the explosion. Sufficient agreement was achieved between the measured and the calculated data on concrete material loading and building vibration. In this way, a basis was created on which licensing documents can be drafted.
