Abstract

Since initiation of the project in the year 2000, the network group has created a broad platform for collaborative trials and consensus agreements. Starting from retrospective multi-institutional surveys and proceeding via multi-center pilot and subsequent randomized trials, a structured evaluation of innovative approaches in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular immunotherapy for acute and chronic leukemias has been established in close cooperation with the disease-oriented national study groups. Successful examples of this type of vertical networking are represented by the progress that has been made in the field of optimal conditioning for allogeneic HSCT, The focus of future activities will be (i) to complete current trials, (ii) to broaden the structured evaluation activities to other indications and approaches currently at an earlier stage of clinical validation and (iii) to transfer results as standards into the health care system.
