Abstract

Widespread use of telematics in surgery depends on a user-friendly (plug and play), simple, and cost-effective system, that allows for comprehensive communication among various members of the medical system. A completely satisfying solution is not yet at hand. However, reimbursement, security aspects, and technical standards are under discussion. This could be of help in the decision-making process, if an effective teleconsultation system is to be established.
