Abstract

A retrospective view on the early work on the physics and applications of grain boundaries in the high temperature superconductors is given. In particular, an attempt is made to summarize the references to the various roots and priorities of the original work. It is the interest of this paper to sharpen and revise previous references and to disentangle the various contributions and the origin of relevant data.
