Abstract

The check on safety against buckling of reinforced concrete compression members may be carried out by comparing the actual slenderness with an admissible slenderness: lambda less than crit lambda . A formula to determine the crit lambda is derived. It is based on the assumption of a linear shape or positively curved shape of the moment-curvature relationship between characteristic points; for a negatively curved shape the results are on the safe side.
