Abstract
This report presents an overview of the state of development and future of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The most important GIS basics and the integration of various components required for the application of a GIS are described. Reference to the necessity for good industrial cooperation is made. The career chances for land surveyors as GIS experts are discussed.
