Abstract
Currently 141.581 cows are registered in the herd book of German Brown Swiss. Compared to other breeds the population size and number of progeny tested bulls per year (∼ 110) is rather small for the development of genomic selection. One basic characteristic of Brown Swiss also holds for genomic selection: tight links and intensive exchange of genetics between national populations in countries worldwide. Based on these facts, there is a need for cooperation on the international level. Therefore German Brown Swiss breeding organizations contribute to both the international project InterGenomics and the national research project PAGeS, which leads to the well known joint genomic evaluation also on genomic level. First results out of the national project PAGeS will be available to breeders in August 2011.
