Abstract

The genetics of flavonoids is part of classical genetics. Since Mendel derived his laws from the results of hybridization experiments with red- and white-flowered peas, visible changes in flavonoids, in particular, in the anthocyanin pattern, have been widely used in genetic studies. However, the wide occurrence, immense diversity and manifold functions of flavonoids also make them an attractive system for study by scientists from many disciplines.
