Abstract
The generation of Am and Eu aerosols from unperturbed surfaces of 5 M HNO3 and HCl solutions is investigated using N2 as a carrier gas. The rate of aerosol generation is found to be (2.8 X 0.8) X 101-5 g/h cm2 for 241 Am and (2.0 ± 0.4) X 10-12 g/h cm2 for natural Eu. Decomposed gases of HNO3 appear to have a considerable effect on the aerosol generation, more significantly than the natural evaporation of acids.
