Abstract
Objective: In the German occupational safety and health act the term psychosocial risk was added to the health hazards an employer has to prevent in 2013. Employees in hospitals are suffering from high psychological strain. Methods: We performed a narrative review to review the current situation for psychosocial risk-evaluation in the workplace Results: Psychosocial risk assessments including actions to prevent psychosocial stress are rarely performed in Germany, within and outside hospitals. Reasons are lack of knowledge and lack of qualification of those who are in charge. Conclusion: Especially against the background of the high work-related burdens on hospital staff, it is to be hoped that in the future a risk assessment of mental stress will be carried out more frequently.
