Abstract

Using a technique proposed by Kupryashkin et al. we carried out measurements of γ-ray induced Doppler shift after neutron capture at the Forschungsreaktor München (FRM I) in Garching. In our first experiment the unattenuated Doppler shift of the 4934-keV line of 29Si has been reproduced. In a second measurement the 1499-keV transition of 49Ti showed an attenuated Doppler shift. With a molecular-dynamics simulation for the slowing down the mean lifetime of the 3261-keV level was determined. Our values show good agreement with results from other methods.
