Abstract

Using the Delphi approach, the impacts of modern biotechnology have been analysed in five EU countries. Within the coming ten years a significantly increasing number of biotechnology-derived products and methods are likely to be used in the EU agro-food sector. However, this will result only in limited job growth in specialized biotech companies and the supply industry. In line with previous population surveys, the experts of the Central European countries are more sceptical about agro-food biotechnology than their Mediterranean colleagues.
