Abstract

Effective management of unexpected situations at automated production systems requires high levels of expertise. Formalizing implicit expert knowledge enables exchange of expertise to other applications as data-driven analysis of system behavior. The acquisition of Mental Models (mental representation of system behavior) is one way to formalize this knowledge and develop a cause and effect model. However, it requires a well-designed setting to reveal sig nificant models. Therefore, the experience with knowledge acquisition is outlined in this contribution. Methodical as well as environmental factors are discussed and evaluated based on their costs and benefit ratio.
