"Focus Cerebralparese": Erster interdisziplinärer Kongress der Gesellschaften für Neuropädiatrie, Sozialpädiatrie und Jugendmedizin und Orthopädie - ein Rückblick

Modern therapy for patients with cerebral palsy (CP) requires an interdisciplinary approach. For this reason, the three associations - Neuropediatric Association, Association for Social Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and Orthopedic Association (Child Orthopedics Section, CP Study Group) - decided to organize a combined congress. In this way, a cross-border forum of different disciplines for patients with CP with three principal focuses was created: (i) Prevention of hip luxation: the incidence of hip luxation can be reduced by an early and interdisciplinary combination of conservative and surgical therapeutic approaches. (ii) Neuronal plasticity: recent scientific findings in the area of CP have given brain sciences significant impetus. The discussion of these results is intended to lead to a better understanding of the pathophysiology of CP and to underline therapeutic implications. (iii) Quality of life: recent studies relating to quality of life in CP patients have broadened our knowledge. Factors influencing the quality of life were discussed, including their medical and socio-political implications.
