Abstract

The fluid flow between the rotating impeller and the casing of centrifugal pumps with low specific speed induces axial forces and frictional torques. Therefore, the knowledge of this fluid flow is important designing centrifugal pumps. Two numerical solution procedures have been developed to evaluate the stationary fluid flow with and without superposed radially inward throughflow. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using a second order finite difference method.
