Abstract

A low-cost tunnel display presenting guidance information in a 3-dimesnional format is tested in a comprehensive experimental program. The low-cost goal is achieved using commercial-off-the-shelf components for the hardware and by developing an efficient software for generating the 3-dimensional guidance information presented in the tunnel display. The flight test program includes demanding guidance and control tasks for fully exploiting the capabilities of the tunnel display. A particularly demanding task concerns curved and sleep approaches in a difficult terrain environment, like a mountainous area. Results are presented for verification of the control performance goals.
