Abstract

Flight test results are presented for a 3-dimensional guidance system comprising low-cost display and navigation components. This guidance system is based on a concept providing the pilot with command and status information not only of the current but also of future flight conditions. The guidance information which is displayed in a 3-dimensional format employs a tunnel image for showing the command flight path and a predictor for indicating the future position of the aircraft. Optionally, an image of the outside world image can be also presented. The results from flight tests show the effectiveness of the 3-dimensional guidance display system as an aid to support the pilot in the guidance and control of aircraft.
