Abstract

The flight performance capabilities of electric aircraft are dealt with. It is shown that they possess performance properties which differ significantly from those of aerial vehicles employing an air-breathing propulsion system with a piston engine and a propeller. The characteristics of electric motors yield performance advantages when compared with airbreathing engines. This holds for the flight performance in general, and particularly for representative performance items such as the ceiling, the top speed or the maximum range.
