Abstract

A problem in airplane performance optimization concerns the modelling of the thrust force direction. There are fundamental optimality difficulties when the thrust force is considered fixed on the vehicle. An approach is presented which is capable of producing a solution for the above problem. A relaxed optimization problem is constructed as an equivalent of the original system and a solution is developed on this basis. A range cruise problem of hypersonic flight is used as a numerical example.
