Abstract

A 3D finite element/boundary element (FEM/BEM)-hybrid approach for layered media is presented which allows electromagnetic field computation in layered structures disturbed by arbitrary finite sized inhomogenities. The inhomogenities are modeled by the FEM based on spurious mode free edge elements. The layered structure is handled by a well-known mixed potential integral equation (MPIE)-formulation which is developed in a new straightforward manner. The integral equation is solved by the method of moments where special attention is given to the evaluation of the coupling integrals. Numerical results are presented.
