Fast-Track-Chirurgie in der Neuroonkologie

Background: Fast-track surgical treatment of neurooncology patients is a multimodal approach aimed at reducing the length of hospital stay, and is gaining more and more importance in a resource-limited health care system. Objective: This study aimed to analyze current evidence on fast-track surgery in neurooncology patients. Materials and methods: A systematic literature review was performed in the PubMed database including the search items “ERAS AND neurosurgery,” “neurooncology AND ERAS,” and “fast-track AND neurosurgery.” Evidence grades were assessed by applying the Oxford evidence classification. Results: In total, 19 studies were identified analyzing fast-track surgery in neurooncology. While 6 studies corresponded to literature reviews, 13 included clinical retrospective and prospective studies showing a shortened hospital stay using fast-track protocols. Conclusion: Fast-track surgery in neurooncology is feasible and presents great opportunities to reduce patients’ hospital stay. However, it requires additional employees to provide perioperative supervision.
