Fast solvers for dynamic models of quasi-cyclic structures

Abstract

Many structural (and non-structural) systems are quasi-cyclic, namely composed of parts made of cyclically repeated sectors and other non-cyclic addenda. Efficient solution techniques based on harmonic decomposition of sector solutions can be applied for cyclic problems but when the cyclicity is broken full three-dimensional models or approximate reduction methods must be used. Here we propose a domain decomposition method to efficiently solve quasi-cyclic problems. The solver is then used into a subspace iteration to compute eigensolutions. Numerical results are shown to indicate the field of application of the proposed strategy.
