Abstract
Case-control studies are used to investigate rare diseases. In occupational medicine they are used to investigate exposures which are not limited to a certain industry. Bias in case-control studies is mostly due to inadequate selection of the control group or differential misclassification of exposure between cases and controls. Careful planning, conduct and analysis of case-control studies following the criteria of good epidemiological practice (GEP) will minimize bias.
