Abstract

Topical treatment with borage oil was evaluated in 100 patients with atopic eczema in a double-blind, controlled clinical trial. Twice daily a cream containing 10% of oil of borage was applied on the right or left arm or leg for 4 weeks. The linolenic acid free, urea containing emollient cream was applied on the contralateral side in a double-blind manner as control. 67 adults and 33 children were treated. No topical or systemic side effects were observed. Patient's self-assessment or doctor's assessment showed no difference between controlsides and borage-oil-treated arms or legs.
