Abstract

For the management of acute tachyarrhythmias various methods of electrical temporary pacing are available which offer advantages over other forms of treatment such as use of antiarrhythmic agents or electrocardioversion. This paper gives a survey of the different pacing methods foverdrive pacing, rapid rate stimulation, overdrive suppression, underdrive pacing and programmed stimulation) and discusses their application, indications, effectiveness and possible complications.
