Experimental investigation of the shock distance in front of an inclined flat plate without thickness in transonic flow.

Abstract

Shock distances in front of inclined flat plates without thickness in transonic flow (MSUP 1) are investigated. The aim of the experiments is to determine the unknown constant of the asymptotic representation at large shock distances as well as the solution at small shock distances predicted by the transonic similarity law. The stationary two-dimensional transonic flow (MSUP 1) around inclined slender wedges is experimentally investigated. The flow field around thick plates and slender wedges was measured to determine the conditions for a good approximation with regard to the theoretical model of a plate without thickness. With respect to these restrictions the asymptotic solution and the similarity solution for small shock distances are experimentally determined. (A)
