Abstract
Following experimental and theoretical-numerical loss analysis testing on a full spiral Kaplan turbine, it has been shown that numerical simulation based on the standard k-ε turbulence model is not accurate enough to substitute model tests. More elaborate turbulence models need to be developed and calibrated.
