Abstract

Spare parts management is the basic requirement for ensuring the continuous availability of technical systems, but uncertainties in demand and delivery times can necessitate a large spare parts inventory. It is possible to reduce the required inventory levels and costs by using a cooperative inventory pooling-system, but there is as yet no suitable method of estimating the benefits and requirements. To address this deficiency, an evaluation model was developed, allowing interested companies to examine cooperative inventory pooling-systems. The model presented qualitatively evaluates the aptitude of specific companies and environments and subsequently demonstrates the economic potential based on the data provided.
