Abstract

Advances in numerical algorithms and computer technology have enabled extensive computational structures technology (CST) development for aerospace R&D in Europe. Significant efforts are directed at standardization and quality assurance assessment of finite element method (FEM) structural analysis methodology. Examples of the work conducted in various European countries on aerospace vehicles and structures, such as the Hermes spaceplane, are presented.
